Last year, my word of the year, the word that would define my life was ACTION. I wanted to stop procrastinating and take action on the things I knew I needed to do.

Was I successful you ask? Sort of. I got an AMAZING amount of stuff done in 2015. I got my daughter through her last year of high school, helped her navigate college applications, AND survived dropping her off at college. I planned and executed an awards dinner, the senior prom, my daughter’s graduation party, a memorial service, a retirement ceremony, and the office holiday party. I also completed 5 classes while I worked. I even got a complete physical! Yes, some stuff took a back seat to others including my grand exercise plan. But… the great thing about being a “former” procrastinator is I know there is always tomorrow.

When I started thinking about my word for 2016, I didn’t have to think long. And…it’s not a word, it is actually a phrase. My job can be stressful at times and I sometimes go into panic mode, or irritation mode, or cursing mode…but a friend of mine, Tim, always says to me “YBF, you’ll be fine”. I used to reply “whatever” but he was right… I was always fine. The great thing about Tim is, he’s not just saying this. This is a motto he lives by. I never see him angry, or upset, or having a bad day. He just says to himself “YBF”.

Those who know me, know I over-plan, over-think, and over-analyze almost EVERYTHING! Then I worry, think of everything that could go wrong, then re-plan, re-think, and re-analyze. At the end of it all, I was FINE! All that stress for nothing.

So, this year, instead of stressing myself out and allowing outside forces/influences/people to stress me out, I’m just going to say to myself “YBF”.

I’ll be fine, and so will you! Happy New Year!
